Blakely Island Trip 2022

Island Express Charters is the easiest way to get to Blakely Island. They are located at the Skyline Marina in Anacortes. (This is not the Cap Sante Marina right in downtown Anacortes where Dad used to have his boat. It is several miles out of town.) Read their FAQ!!!

Denny’s August 20, 2022 Trip Details:

  • We are all booked on Island Express for round trip.

  • 3pm departure from Anacortes on Saturday 8/20

  • 9am return from Blakey on Wednesday 8/24

  • If you need to change reservations tell Denny, don’t call Island Exresss to change.

  • Payment is on the boat by credit card. (About $90 each person, round trip)

  • There is street parking at the Skyline Marina marked as 72hrs that I will use. Nobody pays any attention to the 72hr limit. There is a paid parking lot if the street is full or you are concerned about going over the limit.

  • There are carts at the dock at both ends to help haul stuff.

  • It gets cool in the evenings so bring something with long sleeves.

  • There is a washer and drier and lots of bedding and towels at the house, so don’t overpack.

Food and Drinks:

  • I will bring the food for all 4 days.

  • Karen is bringing eggs for breakfasts.

  • Teal is bringing s’mores fixings.

  • There is coffee, cold filtered water, lemonade, iced tea, etc there.

  • Each person is responsible for beer/liquor/fancy drinks that they want to bring.

  • I will bring a 24 pack of Pellegrino fizzy waters to share.

Cool Stuff to do on Blakely Island:

  • We will crab on Sunday. (And on Saturday afternoon if Teal wins.)

  • Marina where we will be dropped off has Dad’s boat, and the SUV will be parked waiting for us.

  • Marina has a small store and gas for the car and boat.

  • The house is just a short walk up the hill.

  • 2 Beaches. North beach is a very short walk. South beach is at the other end of the runway.

  • Horseshoe Lake is a 10 minute SUV ride up the gravel road.

  • The lake has a small dock (seen above) with rowboats and canoes for fishing or goofing off.

  • The lake also has a grassy “beach” area for chilling or swimming.

  • Blakely Peak is a hike up from the middle of the island up to the top, and is worth it for the view.

  • The gravel road on the island leads to another lake and the historic old schoolhouse and a few properties at the far end.

Important Blakely Rule: Never cross the runway!! Use the road at each end!!
